Mostly, what the Jordan-Elbridge lacrosse teams did in the closing days of the regular season was bear witness to someone else’s excitement — or try and end another team’s post-season dreams. In the case of the boys Eagles, it first got subjected to being the guests at Skaneateles last Tuesday night as Lakers head coach Ron Doctor earned his 400th career win by beating J-E 18-5. Determined to get the milestone, Skaneateles stormed past J-E for 15 unanswered goals in the first half. J-E did not get on the board until the third quarter. Once it did, Jeff Guadagnolo posted a pair of goals, adding an assist as Aurie Schwarting each scored twice. Tyler Richardson had a goal as Gale Thorpe and Zach Stevenson each earned one assist. Kelly Donigan led Skaneateles with four goals and four assists. Shaking this off, J-E returned home two nights later and beat Christian Brothers Academy 11-7 on Senior Night. Through a 5-5 first half, neither side could make a sustained run. But with the tension mounting, J-E clamped down on defense in the second half, holding CBA to two goals as it moved out in front. Guadagnolo and Thorpe led the late charge, each finishing with three-goal hat tricks. Tom Delap stepped up, scoring twice, while Schwarting and Cody Lewis both gained one goal and one assist and Dylan Johnson also converted. Clint Daniels added an assist as Connor Smart had a terrific effort in the net, recording 16 saves. Meanwhile, the J-E girls lacrosse team, safely in the playoffs, tried to eliminate Cazenovia last Tuesday at the Fenner Street complex, but fell to the Lakers 16-13. It was close all the way through, the Eagles putting up plenty of production in the first half, yet still falling behind 9-8. Cazenovia would inch away in the late stages by tightening its defense. Amanda Wheeler had four goals and one assist. Kelsey Youmell scored three times, adding an assist, too, as Carrie-Jo Farrugia had two goals and one assist. Ella Thorpe and Amanda Brown each got one goal and one assist as Mallory Snyder and Emily Dillon also converted. Kelsey Richardson posted 11 saves, the same as Cazenovia counterpart Lauren Divine. Gabby Jaquith and Kaitlyn Button led Cazenovia with four goals apiece. The Eagles turned around Thursday night and put together a 10-9 victory over Westhill that involved some late heroics from Farrugia. Trailing 6-4 at halftime, J-E kept in touch throughout the second half, yet still trailed 9-8 with less than a minute to play before Farrugia took over. With just 39 seconds left, Farrugia flung a shot past Morgan Roach, tying the game 9-9. J-E quickly won the ensuing draw and, 10 seconds later, Farrugia converted the game-winner, her third goal of the night to go with three assists. In support of Farrugia, Youmell and Dillon each got two goals, while Emily Bates and Chelsea Maitland also scored. Brown and Wheeler added assists. J-E won despite Westhill’s Brenna Rainone (four goals, three assists) and Caroline Buonocore (three goals, one assist) both having fine efforts. Richardson had nine saves. As it turned out, J-E, with the no. 3 seed for the Class C-2 playoffs, hosts a rematch with no. 6 seed Westhill on Monday, with the winner to get Skaneateles or LaFayette in Wednesday’s semifinals. The C-2 final is Friday at Solvay’s Earl Hadley Stadium.
