Making a strong case as an OHSL Liberty division championship contender, the Cazenovia girls track and field team went to Alibrandi Stadium and dominated its league opener against host Christian Brothers Academy and Marcellus The Lakers beat both the Lakers and Mustangs by equal 101-35 margins, with Paige Biviano at the forefront. The multi-talented Biviano won four times, going 15 feet 9 inches in the long jump and 34 feet 8 inches in the triple jump while clearing 5 feet 2 inches in the high jump. To cap it off, Biviano ran the 100-meter high hurdles in a top time of 16.9 seconds. Ashley Winn was the other Laker standout, helping out in four winning efforts. She swept the sprints, taking the 100-meter dash (13.1 seconds) and 200-meter dash (27.0 seconds), then helped Jillian Vogl, Audrey Bowers and Piper Gianforte take the 4×100 relay in 51.9 seconds. And in the 4×400, Winn, Meaghan Liddell, Ellen Burr and Hollie Marcelle prevailed in 4:30.2. Marcelle, on her own, claimed a victory in the 800-meter run (2:27.9) as Hannah Polsin took the shot put (28 feet 10 inches) and Olivia Ellers threw the discus 71 feet 9 inches. On the boys side, the Lakers could not keep up, taking a 111-29 loss to CBA and a 105-36 defeat to Marcellus. Not once did Cazenovia win an individual event as the Brothers’ Trey Williams prevailed in the long jump (20 feet 5 inches), high jump (6 feet 2 inches) and triple jump (43 feet 1 inch). Both of the Cazenovia track teams resume league action April 28, going to Solvay for a meet also involving Jordan-Elbridge.
