After a brief dip, the Chittenango baseball team swung back to form in last Monday’s game against Fulton, ripping the Red Raiders 14-1 at DiChristina Field. It actually was a 1-1 game until the bottom of the second inning, when the Bears got to Fulton pitcher Josh Collins for five runs, then tacked on four more runs in the third to make it 10-1, and a runaway. Chittenango had 10 hits, including Devin Christopher’s triple as he finished with three RBIs. Wes Burghardt doubled and drove in two runs as Greg Jasek, Brendan Galek, Ryan Kendrick and Andrew Lampman each had one RBI. Given such generous support, Bears pitcher Kevin Streeter did not ease up, going all seven innings as he surrendered just three hits. The Bears went for back-to-back wins on Tuesday, against Jamesville-DeWitt, but could not hang on in the late going as it took a 6-4 loss to the Red Rams. With Burghardt on his way to three RBIs and Christopher also driving in a run, Chittenango led, 3-1, through four innings, only to see J-D go in front with three runs in the fifth and two more tallies in the sixth. Mike Moon took the loss, with Jeff Pierce working in relief. Mike Gianni and Eric Thompson each got two RBIs to lead the Rams’ rally. Looking to bounce back Thursday, against Fowler, the Bears did so, beating the Falcons 5-1, though it was far from easy. Even with good pitching from Burghardt, Chittenango was only in a 1-1 tie until the top of the fifth, when it got to Fowler for four runs to move ahead for good. And Burghardt helped his own cause with a pair of RBIs — though five Falcon errors helped, too.
