The Cazenovia boys tennis team proved quite impressive in its 2010 debut, handling Westhill last Wednesday afternoon in a 5-0 shutout. Only once, in first singles, was the shutout seriously threatened. Jon Cipiti lost the second set to Cole Kelly, but recovered to prevail 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Elsewhere in singles, Chris Rogers fought past Andre Remillard 7-6, 6-4, while Nick Christakos dominated Joe Sabastano in a 6-1, 6-1 shutout. Lee Cudney and Sam Concilla prevailed in doubles, toppling Lee Betota and Tom Missert in a pair of 6-3 sets as Crozer Conner and Jon Lyga got past Dan Vednais and Nate Chapin 6-3, 6-2. Cazenovia played again Thursday, against Marcellus, and again would not drop a match as it toppled the Mustangs 5-0. Cipiti handled Kris Danielson 6-1, 6-1, while Christakos took out Dan Martin 6-0, 6-2 and Rogers went through a second-set tie-breaker to beat James Garzia 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). In doubles, Cudney and Concilla beat Brian Swierczek and Jack Krantz 6-3, 7-5, as Conner and Lyga earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Colin Hewitt and Brett Vergara 6-3, 6-4.
