Sanctuary Stables Equestrian Team Dominates at Zone 2 IEA Finals
The Sanctuary Stables Equestrian Team sent a record 13 riders to compete at Zone Finals on March 27, hosted by Alfred University. With both the middle school and high school team qualified, in addition to 12 riders competing as individuals, it was a full day of competition for the Sanctuary riders, coached by Nicolle Madonna and Meg Maloney. The day started off with a strong ride by Kristen Koenig, sophomore at Fayetteville-Manlius High School, in the open individual on the flat, which qualified her to move on to National Finals. Corinne Milnamow, freshman at Chittenango High School, qualified for National Finals as an individual in both the Intermediate over Fences and Intermediate on the Flat. Erin Vieau, 8th grader at Christian Brothers Academy, qualified in the Intermediate on the Flat. Monica Perrone, 8th grader at Christian Brothers Academy, qualified as an individual in the Novice on the Flat. The middle school team ended the day as the Champion Middle School team. The final result for the high school was Sanctuary Stables, Champion and the Grier School, Reserve Champion. Head coach Nicolle Madonna said of her team, “I am so proud of how hard all the girls have worked this year. We have had such great support this year from the families of our riders, Dena Breault at Sanctuary, Dave Brown, Melissa Davis at the Show Trunk, the Steele Clinic and Lisa Eklund at Morrisville State College. With this being the last year competing under the Sanctuary Stables name, it was very special for us to end the year on such a strong note.” The Sanctuary Stables Equestrian Team will send eight riders to the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, GA to compete for National Finals April 22 through 25. The Sanctuary Stables Equestrian Team will return in 2010-11 under the new name of CNY Equitation Team and will be based out of East Syracuse. Tryouts for the 2010-11 Team will be held in August.
