Among the cuts the Jordan-Elbridge Central School District will manage to make for the 2010-11 school year: Superintendent of Schools Marilyn J. Dominick’s salary. Dominick first announced last week at the March 17 school board meeting that she would retire Nov. 1, after 10 years at the helm of J-E. Her salary for 2009 was $157,134. According to district public information officer Robin Smart, the district has not hired a replacement. Dominick’s retirement was again announced tonight during the public budget forum, the second in two months held to keep residents up to date with how the school board will address impending funding cuts in the 2010-11 budget. A more detailed and updated presentation than the one given last month included a list of 18.4 staff and faculty positions likely to be cut, 12.4 of which are teaching positions. Retirements account for five of the total positions on the chopping block. Following the presentation, the group split into eight focus groups led by district officials and school board members to gather questions, concerns and ideas for additional savings from the public.
