Many of Baldwinsville’s top indoor track and field athletes pursued top finishes at last Monday night’s Section III state qualifying meet at Manley Field House. Rudy Sapp earned his trip to the state meet in the 55-meter dash. Only the two finishers advance and Sapp, in 6.74 seconds, beat everyone except Rome Free Academy star Anthony DeJean, who prevailed in 6.48 seconds and later set a sectional record (23 feet 10 1/2 inches) in the long jump. Brian Kane, having already qualified for the state meet in the high jump, cleared 6 feet 2 inches, but that only tied him for third place as Oneida’s Mike Rabbitt won, clearing 6 feet 4 inches. B’ville was the only team to challenge Liverpool in the 4×800 relay. Ethan Pacheck, Josh Perez, Alec Peinkofer and Charles Parker finished in 8:49.42 as the Warriors won in 8:33.08. Nate McCabe took fifth place in the mile in 4:30.22, while Andrew Hoover ran to seventh in the 55-meter hurdles. Shaun Thompson (9:56.97) and Adam Pacheck (10:11.44) were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run. Todd Mitchell was 12th in the 300-meter dash (38.77 seconds). In the girls state qualifier, the Bees’ 4×800 relay team of Jaimee Balloni, Laura Farleman, Kristen Biedermann and Ashley Shaheen finished fifth in a time of 10:32.22. Fayetteville-Manlius won in 9:11.63, breaking its own two-year old sectional record by more than six seconds.
