Each of Chittenango’s indoor track and field teams would take turns vying for honors during last week’s Onondaga High School League Freedom division meets at Manley Field House. On the boys end, the Bears proved quite successful Wednesday night, gaining 66 points to beat out Mexico (58 points) for second place, though it was well off Jamesville-DeWitt’s winning total of 140 points. Josiah Durfee stood out, winning the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:23.82, more than half a minute ahead of Mexico’s Tyler Pettit, and was also sixth in the mile. Bruce Gondeck nearly won the 55-meter hurdles, edged out by Homer’s Andrew Gregg, 8.37 seconds to 8.38. Jason Given worked his way to second in the 600-meter run in 1:32.92, Brian Bohne sprinted to third in the 55-meter dash in 6.83 seconds and fourth (37.69 seconds) in the 300-meter dash. Rogers Lucas was fifth in the 1,000-meter run. In the 4×400 relay, Given, John Durfee, Greg Foster and Tyler Howd worked together to finish second in 3:48.53, behind only J-D. Foster, Howd and the two Durfees were third in the 4×800 relay (9:21.64), with Bohne, Given, Gondeck and John Laplante fourth in the 4×200 relay in 1:40.69. Chittenango had minimal success in field events. Ryan Eklund had a fourth-place triple jump of 33 feet 9 inches, while Justin Stevens was sixth in the long jump. Going first on Monday night, the girls Bears picked up 37 points, fifth in a seven-team field as J-D, with 172 points, breezed to the top spot here, too. On the oval, Hannah Murphy earned third place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:45.44. Becca Sager was third in the 3,000-meter run, edging out teammate Kelly Anderson as they both hit the line in 12:34.02. Theresa Parascendola was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (11.40 seconds) and also fifth in the 55-meter dash (8.44 seconds), while Alyssa Giarosso took sixth place in the 300-meter dash in 47.18 seconds. Kaitlyn Alongi was sixth (1:52.45) in the 600-meter run and Cassie Regan sixth (3:51.83) in the 1,000-meter run. In its best relay effort, Chittenango was fifth in the 4×400. Giarosso, Hillary Courtwright, Jessica Stoddard and Alissa Levens-Freeman got a time of 4:55.55. Katrina Karbouniczak took third place in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 8 inches, while Maize Zamlowski took fourth in the triple jump with 29 feet 9 inches. Zamlowski also was fifth (13 feet 1 1/2 inches) in the long jump.
