In many different ways, the Cazenovia girls indoor track and field team impressed the gathered throng at Wednesday night’s Section III Class B championship meet at Manley Field House. All told, the Lakers finished with 75 points, which put them in second place, just ahead of Clinton (72 points) for that runner-up spot. Only Skaneateles fared better, as that other Laker team won with 92 points. Paige Biviano, by herself, provided 26 of Cazenovia’s points. Biviano, a sophomore, won the long jump, going 16 feet 3 1/4 inches, comfortably ahead of CBA’s Betty Etheredge (15 feet 6 inches). Biviano also was second in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, and took second in the 55-meter hurdles, edged out by Clinton’s Erica Freund, 9.47 seconds to Freund’s 9.45. Jillian Vogl, Katie Woodworth, Audrey Bowers and Katie Kleine earned second place in the 4×200 relay in 1:53.46, just behind Skaneateles (1:52.40). Vogl, on her own, was second in the 300-meter dash (44.12 seconds) behind Skaneateles star Victoria Sakal (43.22). Junior Piper Gianforte would take the Class B pole vault as the only competitor to clear 8 feet, while teammate Michelle McGinnis (6 feet 6 inches) was fifth. Hollie Marcelle, Meghan Liddell, Jackie O’Sullivan and Emmajean Spear were fourth (4:26.98) in the 4×400 relay. Christy Tainter earned third place in the shot put, tossing it 27 feet 3 1/2 inches. Kleine was sixth (29 feet 10 1/4 inches) in the triple jump, and Patrice Gonzales was sixth in the 1,500-meter race walk. Emma Wolsey was seventh in the 3,000-meter run and Margaret Wolsey seventh in the 1,000-meter run, with Woodworth seventh in the 55-meter dash and Liddell seventh in the 600-meter run. The Lakers also took seventh in the 4×800, so they just missed out on points in five different events.
