With a bit more all-around strength, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls indoor track and field team withstood the challenge of Fayetteville-Manlius, Liverpool and the rest of the field to win the Section III Class AA championship Wednesday night at Manley Field House. Overall, the Northstars had 107 points, enough to win as F-M claimed second with 96 points. Liverpool ended up fourth, with 55 points, just behind Rome Free Academy (58 points) for that third spot. Jasmine Thompson again provided leadership for the Northstars, earning 20 points in field events. She was second in the triple jump (35 feet 8 1/2 inches), second in the high jump (5 feet 2 inches) and fourth in the long jump (16 feet 5 3/4 inches). Valerie Langevin was second in the shot put with a toss of 33 feet 9 1/2 inches, just a quarter-inch ahead of teammate Casey Wilmer (33 feet 9 1/4 inches) in third place. Jessica Wheeler was second in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet. Katie Osborne edged past Oswego’s Eliza Parker in the 55-meter hurdles, 9.03 seconds to 9.04, with Wheeler in sixth place. Taylor Wendler, on the day she signed her college letter of intent to go to the University of Kentucky, celebrated by winning the 3,000-meter run in 10:07.42, with freshman Nicole Watterud (10:29.79) in fourth place. Wendler also was second in the 1,500-meter run (4:52.60) and Watterud was fourth in 5:04.10. Dana Rinaldi was second in the 1,500 race walk, with Shannon Bausinger in fourth place. Twice, CNS was second in relays to F-M. Chelsea Davidson, Marissa Colburn, Maria Lamontagne and Nicole Campagna got second in the 4×800 relay (9:56.91), with Davidson and Campagna helping Katie Laris and Ayah Saleh take the 4×400 relay in 4:22.66. On her own, Lamontagne was third in the 1,000-meter run (2:57.63), with Colburn (3:09.70) in fifth place. Liverpool got wins in the shot put, where Tatiana Gladney tossed it 34 feet 3 1/2 inches. Meagan Turner was third in the high jump (4 feet 10 inches), with Armani Moore fourth (32 feet 8 3/4 inches) and Megan Earle sixth in the triple jump. Rachel Putman, Chelsea Attaway, Kyla Bills and Kaitlyn McNamara were third in the 4×800 relay in 10:10.24. Bills got second place in the 1,000 in 2:57.25 and sixth in the 300. Lesley Bowers was fifth in the 1,500 and 3,000, with Putman fifth in the 600. Attaway also was third in the pole vault (8 feet), with Shae Shenandoah (7 feet) in fourth place. The Warriors were fifth in both the 4×400 (4:28.35) and 4×200 relays (1:56.88), with Jessica Attaway, Skye Borasky, Farrah Terranova, Chenae Sinclair, Hannah Anthes and Nikki Carfi involved.
