While the Vernon Verona Sherrill boys bowling team has been good throughout this winter, it reached a new level during Friday’s 10-1 romp over Utica-Notre Dame. In particular, Josh Mennig had a memorable afternoon. On his way to a 721 series, Mennig had a game where all 12 shots found the pocket for strikes – a 300, the first perfect game of his career. That only proved the top part of the day, as Zach Laguzza and Zane Hasty both put together high games of 255. Laguzza finished with a three-game total of 671, while Hasty earned a 619 set and Collin Laguzza put together a 615 series. With that win, VVS improved to 15-1, 12-0 in the Tri-Valley League.
As this went on, the girls Red Devils lost 10-1 to Utica Proctor, despite a 561 series from Lizzie Van Slyke. Becky Talbot had a 535 series and Amber Bailey had a 513 set. Katie Szczesniak led Proctor with a three-game total of 614. Both of Oneida’s teams lost on Friday, taking 11-0 defeats to Whitesboro as Megan Jones led the girls Warriors with a 620 series.
