As each of the Liverpool basketball teams motored toward key games with Corcoran late next week, both are playing quite well – even if at less than full strength. The boys Warriors, who didn’t have Jesse Gates for its 57-55 win over Baldwinsville earlier this week, again lacked his services for Friday’s game against Auburn – but still led from start to finish in a 62-40 romp over the Maroons. A combination of strong team defense and accurate 3-point shooting served Liverpool well in the first quarter as it bolted out to a 22-9 lead. Though it cooled off a bit before halftime, the Warriors (10-4) resumed the attack in the third quarter, more than doubling the Maroons’ output and expanding its lead to 53-28. Adam Misener had 15 points and Richard Green got 11 points, each of them hitting on three 3-pointers. Connor Rogers and Cam Jones got eight points apiece, with Ian Hamm adding six points. Ronzell Allen, with 10 points, was the lone Auburn player to score in double figures. Liverpool’s girls team followed its big home win over B’ville by going to Auburn and toppling the Maroons 54-42. This proved to be a steady effort on the Warriors’ part, as it worked its way to a 41-25 lead through three periods so it could withstand a late Auburn rally. Just as in the boys game, Liverpool put on quite a shooting show. Ally Zywicki connected on five 3-pointers on her way to 19 points on the night, while Nina Tassone earned 15 points through a trio of 3-pointers. Nicole Ciricillo worked inside to earn 10 points as the Warriors improved to 7-5.
