Two more impressive victories pushed the Cicero-North Syracuse girls basketball team’s mark to 8-3 as it remained unbeaten against CNY Counties League foes. In particular, the Northstars proved strong in last Tuesday’s game against Nottingham, as Breanna Stewart got the best of another match-up in the paint during a 55-31 romp over the Bulldogs. CNS bolted out to a 17-7 first-quarter lead, then stayed patient until the third period, when its defense really took Nottingham out of its rhythm, leading to a 16-3 spurt. Stewart matched up with Nottingham center Nikki Works, who had a solid showing as she put up 14 points. But Stewart nearly doubled Works, earning 26 points, plus 12 rebounds and three blocks. Offering the help, Brittany Paul finished with nine points, while Abbey Timpano earned eight points and Cara Gannett got six points. On Friday, CNS went to Central Square and proved just as dominant as with Nottingham, doubling the Red Hawks’ output in a 60-30 victory. Over the course of the first three periods, the Northstars established a 51-16 lead, allowing the starters to rest in the fourth quarter. Prior to that, Stewart put up 19 points, while Kelsey Mattice gained 13 points. Timpano again had eight points as Brittney Fedele and Megan Salle got six points apiece. Meanwhile, the CNS JV team split its two games, losing to Nottingham 35-19, but rebounding to rout Central Square 57-24 as 11 different players got at least one point. The Northstars are home this week, taking on West Genesee Tuesday and facing Canandaigua in a non-league game Friday night.
