A league title was already secure, so the Baldwinsville wrestling team could focus all its energy on proving its complete superiority over the rest of the CNY Counties League. That effort would require the Bees to beat Corcoran Wednesday night. In front of the home crowd at Baker High School, B’ville fulfilled that goal, earning a 42-26 victory over the Cougars. Though the team carries the Corcoran colors, it’s really a gathering of more than 40 wrestlers from five Syracuse city high schools — Corcoran, Henninger, Fowler, Nottingham and Central Tech. Together, they had blitzed, undefeated, through the CNYCL American division as B’ville had done the same in the National division. Now came a tie-breaker of sorts, and when the action started at 119 pounds, the Bees went right to the front, never to be caught. Jacob Norton started it, pinning Nadir McCray midway through the second period, and John Hierholzer (125 pounds) followed it up with a 53-second pin over Lonnie Sales before Anthony Finocchiaro (130 pounds) claimed a forfeit. Following a Nick Jacobs defeat, B’ville won two hard-fought matches. Antonio Peck, at 140 pounds, beat Emmanuel Chanelo 7-3, and Kurt McArdell (145 pounds) followed up with a 5-2 decision over Markeem Chaplin. All these wins, plus Joe Senf (152 pounds) pinning Shead Coleman in 2:26, cushioned the Bees against Corcoran’s dominance of the higher weight classes. The Cougars won four straight, three by pin, and suddenly the Bees only led 30-26 with two matches to go. There was nothing to worry about, though. Tim Sposato clinched the meet at 103 pounds when he pinned Corey Chavis in 1:40, and Joey Shaheen (112 pounds) added further delight with a 44-second pin over Shawn Williams.
