Each of the area’s top indoor track and field teams would prove quite active in back-to-back meets at Manley Field House. During last Monday’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational, Fayetteville-Manlius earned 52 points on the girls side, second only to Cicero-North Syracuse (55 points) as Jamesville-DeWitt grabbed third place with 37.33 points. In the 3,000-meter run, F-M went 1-2 as Katie Sischo won in 10:18.31 and Mackenzie Carter (10:29.34) finished second. Bishop Grimes’ Jessica Curry was third in 11:04.01 as J-D’s Eileen Cody (11:11.23) was fourth. On the Hornets’ side, Kathryn Fanning won the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:55.64, with Maggie Malone taking third place in 5:04.98. J-D’s Paige Morrow finished sixth. Heather Martin earned a 500-meter victory in 1:20.12, edging out Liverpool’s Trina Bills (1:20.16) at the wire. Isabell Carapella was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.01 seconds. J-D would beat the field in the 4×200 relay as Linsay Royer, Amanda Tan, Natalie Mannion and Marae Tearney combined for a time of 1:52.51, the Rams edging past Corcoran (1:52.57) by six-hundredths of a second. F-M (1:55.52) was in fourth place. Tearney wasn’t done, either, as she went to the shot put and, with a toss of 36 feet 8 inches, beat the field by nearly three feet. Katy Pieri was third in the pole vault (7 feet 6 inches), with Danielle Doss tying for sixth. Margaret Fuller earned fifth place in the high jump, with Mannion sixth in the triple jump. CBA had most of its points in the 1,000 sprint medley relay, where Katie Brislin, Ashley Letteney, Rachel Zajdel and Betty Etheredge took second place in 2:31.40, just behind Utica Proctor (2:30.38) at the wire. J-D was fourth in 2:33.51. Over in the boys Arcaro meet, F-M and J-D each had 30 points, tying for fourth place as Corcoran (39 points) grabbed the top spot. Alex Hatz starred for the Hornets, pulling away to victory in the 3,000 in 8:38.24 as teammate Paul Merriman (9:05.10) finished third. Brendan Farrell earned a victory in the 1,500 in 4:14.54, with Andrew Roache fourth (4:18.74) and CBA’s Matt Giannino fifth. Individually, J-D’s David Salbert produced a victory in the triple jump, going 46 feet 1 inch to beat Henninger’s Cole King (45 feet 6 1/2 inches) and the rest of the field. Bumkuth Jiak took second place in the 500 in 1:07.53 and also claim sixth in the high jump. The Rams were also fourth in the 1,000 sprint medley in 2:11.07. Then the whole show repeated itself for Wednesday’s George Constantino Invitational. This time around, F-M and J-D each got 47 points on the girls side, but had to share second place behind Rome Free Academy, whose 50 points got the top spot. F-M’s Courtney Chapman broke the three-minute mark and won the 1,000 in 2:58.87, as Fanning was second in 3:03.96. Morrow was fourth in 3:17 flat. Carter returned and won the 1,500 in 4:46.33, with Martin third in 4:57.81 and Cody (5:10.42) in fourth place. In the 4×400 relay, Carter, Martin, Molly Levy and Audrey Wallace teamed up as F-M won a classic over J-D. The Hornets earned a time of 4:15.01 as the Red Rams’ quartet of Royer, Mannion, Liz Pieri and Katy Pieri took second, just 0.93 seconds behind. F-M also had Carapella finish fifth in the 55 hurdles. Tearney repeated her shot put victory, this time with a throw of 33 feet 9 1/2 inches, Royer, Tan, Mannion and Tearney were second in the 4×200 (1:52.06) behind RFA. J-D saw Vassilou take fifth in the triple jump and Doss finish fifth in the 600. Doss and Katy Pieri were third and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault, while Fuller got sixth in the high jump. J-D did beat F-M in the boys meet, 24 points (sixth) to 22 (tie for seventh). the Rams’ total including Jiak settling into second place in the 600 (1:24.60) and Salbert going to third in the long jump (20 feet 8 1/2 inches). Salbert teamed with Jiak, Ira Grifin and Tim Kendrick for second place in the 4×400 in 3:32.20, just behind Tully (3:31.74) at the wire. Griffin added a fifth in the 55-meter dash. Hatz was present again for the Hornets, needing just 2:30.27 to beat the field by more than three seconds in the 1,000, while Merriman won the mile in 4:33.60 as Brendan Farrell (4:36.64) took fifth.
