Twice within a span of four days, the Skaneateles indoor track and field teams made the pilgrimage to Manley Field House to kick off the heart of its winter slate. The first part was Monday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Relays, where the girls Lakers finished with 19 points, taking seventh place. Cicero-North Syracuse won with 49.5 points. More than half those points came from winning the 4×400 relay. Cassie Berg, Victoria Sakal, Eileen Ford and Carly Strods combined for a time of 4:21.67, nearly two seconds clear of runner-up Jamesville-DeWitt (4:23.66). Also, in the 1,600 sprint medley, Berg, Sakal, Ford and Amanda Gray worked their way to second place in 4:28.88, beaten only by Fayetteville-Manlius (4:27.96). Sophie Gorman and Grace Kelly were sixth in the 55-meter hurdles (21.82 seconds). On the boys end, Sean Cooper, Nate Schwab, Xander Edwards and Calvin Davis ran to third in the 4×400 relay in a time of 3:46.77. Tim Lewis cleared 5 feet 8 inches to tie for fourth in the high jump. Three nights later, in the Bob Grieve Invitational, the Lakers rose to fourth place with 26 points as Jamesville-DeWitt (63 points) took the top spot. The Skaneateles boys team had 14 points and claimed 10th place. Sakal came within an eyelash of a sprint double. First, she beat the field in the 300-meter dash, hitting the line in 44.54 seconds to beat Oswego’s Eliza Parker (44.87 seconds) and the rest of the field. Meanwhile, in the 55-meter dash, Sakal hit the line in 7.68 seconds, the same time as Corcoran’s Ashley Ruffin. But Ruffin prevailed, leaving Sakal in second place. Maddy Adams was fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:46.62, with Gray running to fifth (3:20.80) in the 1,000-meter run and Ford taking fifth in both the 300 (45.34 seconds) and triple jump, going 32 feet 2 inches. Davis made a serious push to win the boys 1,000-meter run, hitting the line in 2:39 flat to finish second behind J-D’s Bumkoth Jiak, who won in 2:37.93. Meanwhile, Lewis improved in the high jump to 5 feet 10 inches and finished third.
