With many stars on hand, the Jamesville-DeWitt and Fayetteville-Manlius indoor track and field teams in the first events of the winter at Manley Field House. This climaxed on Thursday night, in the Bob Grieve Invitational, where the J-D girls team won with 63 points over Cicero-North Syracuse (57 points), while F-M slid into third place with 54 points. CBA earned third place with 23 points. More than half of J-D’s points came from field events. In the pole vault, the Red Rams earned a 1-2 sweep of the top spots, Katy Pieri winning as she cleared 7 feet 6 inches and Danielle Doss (7 feet) taking second place. Margaret Fuller was third in the high jump (4 feet 10 inches), while Natalie Mannion earned third place in the triple jump (33 feet 1 3/4 inches) and Amanda Tan (31 feet 7 1/2 inches) took sixth. In the shot put, Marae Tearney finished third (31 feet 9 inches) and Sierra Vasiliou got fourth with 30 feet 4 1/2 inches. Mannion, Liz Pieri, Katy Pieri and Danielle Doss worked together to win the 4×400 relay in a time of 4:21.67, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Mexico. Liz Pieri also ran to third in the 300-meter dash (45.26 seconds), while Marae Tearney claimed third in the 55-meter dash in 7.70 seconds. On F-M’s side, Courtney Chapman won the 3,000-meter run in 10:24.84, with Jillian Fanning getting to second place in 10:40.09. Hannah Luber and Katie Sischo went 1-2 in the 1,000-meter run, as Luber won in a time of 3:02.63 and Sischo took second place in 3:03.72. Heather Martin was third in the 600-meter run in 1:45.58 and teamed with Kelly Perry, Kathryn Fanning and Katie Muller to finish third in the 4×400 relay in 4:28.63. CBA’s Katie Brislin won the 600-meter run, earning a time of 1:41.60 as teammate Rachel Zajdel (1:46.08) took fourth. Betty Etheredge was fourth in the triple jump (32 feet 11 inches) and Michaela Gildemeyer got fourth in the 1,000-meter run (3:16.85), with Ashley Letteney in sixth. Though less visible in the boys meet, J-D still had 27 points for fifth place, while F-M landed in ninth place, earning 16 points. The Red Rams featured Bumkoth Jiak, who prevailed in the 1,000-meter run in 2:37.93, just ahead of Marcellus’ Jesse Garn (2:39 flat). Also, David Salbert won the triple jump, going 45 feet 5 1/2 inches, more than two feet clear of the field. Ira Griffin was fourth in the 55-meter dash and Brent Fallon was fifth in the shot put. Eric Semmel took sixth in the 55 hurdles. All the Hornets’ points came from the 3,200-meter run, where Alex Hatz blazed to victory in 9:26 flat and Brendan Farrell took third place in 9:45.94.
