Despite some late struggles, the Fayetteville-Manlius wrestling team used a big early push to earn its first CNY Counties League win of the season Wednesday night, going to Oswego and beating the Buccaneers 42-30. Mostly, the Hornets benefited from having close to full participation. Oswego had to forfeit four early matches, allowing Mick O’Bryan (215 pounds), Jacob Norton (103 pounds), Josh Scalzetti (119 pounds) and Tom Quinlan (125 pounds) to win without taking the mat. Later in the meet, Taylor Neveldine (145 pounds) would also claim a forfeit, but F-M got a pair of pins, too. Tim Byrnes earned one of them, at 112 pounds, earning his fall over Brian Pulver with seven seconds left in their match, while Ryan Kiggins (140 pounds) pinned Adam Doviak with 34 seconds to go. This came a night after East Syracuse-Minoa met Mexico and had a lot of late success, even though the Spartans lost to the Tigers 36-22. Much of Mexico’s margin was built through winning the first five matches — four by pin, one through a forfeit. Finally, Brendan O’Donnell, at 140 pounds, put ESM on the board, earning a 14-6 decision over Ray Eastman. Conner Webb won an exciting 145-pound match over A.J. Cimilluca 4-2 before Zach Revette (152 pounds) lost to Kyle Toney 7-3. ESM would begin a closing streak when Dustin Moss, at 171 pounds, beat Troy Benjamin 9-6, before Dylan Dupra (189 pounds) pinned Gavin Campbell in 1:09 and Jon Britton (215 pounds) claimed a forfeit. On the same night, Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA won a unique meet at Morrisville-Eaton, beating the Warriors 39-18. J-D/CBA head coach Treavor LeBlanc got a chance to go back to his alma mater, where he was a three-time Section III champion under the tutelage of his father, Duane, who still coaches the M-E squad. Beaten in the first two matches (including Mike Schneider’s overtime defeat to Blaine Holcomb at 215 pounds), J-D/CBA got on the board when Andrew Romagnoli pinned Orin Brouillette. J. T. Romagnoli (119 pounds), Mikyail Amuraleyer (130 pounds), Abraham Khatib (140 pounds) and Brad Delevan (145 pounds) all won with pins, too, as Zach Anderson (152 pounds) edged past Mike Vreeland 2-0 and Paul D’Antonio, at 171 pounds, won by forfeit.
