In an impressive showing, the Cazenovia wrestling team earned a 6-2 mark and claimed third place during the annual Brett Dixon Memorial Dual Meet at Central Square. Held over two days, the meet drew a nine-team field, and the Lakers, in its first action since an 11th-place finish at the Tri-Valley Tournament on Dec. 18-19, would beat six of them in the course of its work. First, Cazenovia beat the host Central Square Red Hawks 47-18, but it ran into Tri-Valley League power Holland Patent in the second round and lost a close 36-31 decision to the Golden Knights. When Sandy Creek, the eventual tournament champs with an 8-0 mark, beat the Lakers 53-30, Cazenovia was 1-2, but it would not lose again. Starting in the fourth round, when it whipped Fayetteville-Manlius 62-18, Cazenovia would conquer everyone, as it beat Deposit-Hancock 56-20 and held off Vestal 47-30. In a close battle with East Syracuse-Minoa, the Lakers beat the Spartans 39-33, and it closed out matters with a 67-12 romp over Mount Markham.
