Fresh off a solid third-place showing in the Ontario Bay Tournament on Thanksgiving weekend, the Hamilton ice hockey team began to navigate through Division II East opposition as the calendar turned to December. In an exciting game at Westmoreland last Tuesday night, the Emerald Knights rallied to forge a 3-3 tie with the Bulldogs. This game went back and forth. Hamilton led, 1-0, after one period, only to see Westmoreland use a pair of second-period goals to pull out in front. Down 2-1, Hamilton staged its own rally in the third period, pulling back even, and hanging on through overtime for a point thanks to goaltender Brendon Rusch and his 23 saves. Alex Brink scored twice on the Emerald Knights’ behalf. Kam Mikula had the other goal, with Blaine Holcomb getting two assists. Kinnon Nolan-Finkel, Derrick Rogers, James Smith and Nick Koen had assists, too. Alex Foster led Westmoreland with two goals and an assist on Chet Galinski’s tally. Hamilton (1-1-1) comes back to Colgate University’s Starr Rink for home contests this week against Clinton and Oswego.
