Throughout autumn, Canastota girls cross country senior Allison Lasnicki has spent the season pulling away from various fields on various courses, and in wildly varying conditions. When Lasnicki did this one more time on Saturday at SUNY-Plattsburgh, she left no doubt as to who was the best Class C runner in the state. Lasnicki earned the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C championship by wearing down a list of contenders that included several Section III peers. Leading most of the way, Lasnicki covered the 3.1-mile SUNY-Plattsburgh course in 18 minutes, 24.9 seconds. That was nearly half a minute better than Aimee Beaudette (Canton), who took second place in 18:48.5. Not far behind, Leah Rice (Holland Patent) took fifth place in 19:00.7, while Katie Brislin (CBA) was seventh in 19:18.0 and Tully’s Ashley Evans was 11th in 19:29.1.’ Overall, the girls Section III Class C All-Stars finished second (202 points) to Section I (160 points) as Lasnicki, Rice, Brislin and two more Holland Patent runners, Jen MacMillan and Cheyenne Petrillo-Laver, also took part. In the boys state Class C race at Plattsburgh, Canastota senior Aaron Walker found his way to the top 10 and helped the Section III All-Stars win with 182 points, well clear of Section I (323 points) for that top spot. Walker posted a time of 16 minutes, 20.7 seconds, which put him in eighth place. That wasn’t far from Brandon Freyer (Pawling), who won in 15:30.9. On that winning All-Star squad, Mike Marrero (Jordan-Elbridge) was 10th in 16:23.8, Calvin Davis (Skaneateles) was 13th in 16:28.1 and Ohure Sam (Tully) got 17th place in 16:32.9. CBA’s Tom Voorheis was 30th (16:56.5).
