Lauren Perry and Imani Williams, both members of the Westhill/Corcoran girls swim team, emerged as the best at their disciplines during last week’s Section III swimming and diving championship meet at Nottingham High School. With Perry, the case involves sprint races. She first won in Class A on Thursday night, as the only girl in the 50-yard freestyle to break 25 seconds (24.77, to be exact) and the only one to go faster than 54 seconds (53.76) in the 100 freestyle. Having already qualified for the Nov. 20-21 state meet at Webster Schroeder High School near Rochester, Perry took charge again in Saturday’s overall sectional finals, proving so dominant that she would be named the meet’s Most Outstanding Swimmer. In the finals of the 50 freestyle, Perry slightly improved her time to 24.75 seconds, with CBA’s Juliette Wetzel (25.32 seconds) in the runner-up spot. Then, in the 100 freestyle, Perry dueled with New Hartford’s Abigail Max and won again, 53.35 seconds to 53.72. Max is also going to the state meet. Before all the swimmers arrived, Westhill/Corcoran’s Imani Williams took care of winning the sectional Class A diving championship on Wednesday night. With a total of 405.60 points, Williams again beat Fayetteville-Manlius rival Amy Bright, who was second with 374.85 points. West Genesee’s Allie Miedander worked her way to 11th place with 309.95 points. It proved closer on Saturday, when all the top divers gathered. But Williams still finished in front, her total of 436.01 points comfortably ahead of CBA’s Emily Wanamaker, who was second with 416.65 points. West Genesee, with 158 points, finished just ahead of Westhill/Corcoran (139 points) in the team standings. The Warriors’ Hannah Feeney was fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:22.93), while Kim Pedrotti gave the Wildcats a sixth-place time of 1:12.46 in the 100 breaststroke.
