For the second time this autumn, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys soccer team got the better of Liverpool, earning a 4-2 victory over the Warriors Thursday night at Gillette Field. With that win, the Northstars completed an undefeated regular season, having gone 14-0-2, the only blemishes being ties against Nottingham and Fayetteville-Manlius. CNS was unbeaten and untied at home, though, and that would included Liverpool, a team vastly improved from its early-season struggles. The first half proved decisive. Led by Kenny Cooper, who finished with one goal and one assist, the Northstars bolted out to a 3-0 lead. Liverpool didn’t give up, though, making it interesting in the second half as Paul Taber and Mike D’Agostino both scored and Connor Thuette assisted on both plays. Still, CNS held on, overcoming Joe Gilbert’s nine saves. Aside from Cooper, Josh Williams, Gino Corasaniti and Greg Witz earned goals, with Zach MacNabb and Miles Crouse joining Cooper in the assist column. The Warriors’ long, hard climb to get back to the .500 mark culminated last Tuesday with a second-half getaway in a 5-1 victory over Auburn. Liverpool only led the Maroons 1-0 at halftime, but wore down the Maroons in the late going behind a balanced attack. Five different players — Dan Bloshkin, Michael Bay, Taylor Groginski, Ryan Tibbetts and Mike D’Agostino — each had a goal, with Akinniyi Akinpelu and Zach Peck joining Bay in the assist column. Matt Carberry had Auburn’s lone goal.
