In a head-to-head showdown on Thursday, the Christian Brothers Academy girls tennis team took control against Jamesville-DeWitt and recorded a 6-1 victory over the Red Rams. Olivia Messineo initiated a singles sweep, beating Kyrin Pollock 6-0, 6-0. Shilpa Kamani had a 7-5, 6-2 win over Priya Gupta, while Colleen Cavanaugh needed three sets to battle past Natalie Antosh 7-5, 6-7, 6-2. Over in doubles, a key three-set match saw Sarah Kitts and Taylor Procopio work together to beat Stella Min and Nina Hylen 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. Elsewhere, Julie Thomson-Basha and Emily Norkett swept Katie Cieplicki and Claire Mooney 6-3, 6-4, while Rebecca Scullin and Shannon Fitch earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Elena Marchetti-Bowick and Hannah Stefl. J-D’s lone point came in second singles, where Ash Masromi and Joanna Wu stepped up to beat Lauren Mastroeni and Laura Bulman 6-3, 7-5. Making up a previously rained-out match from Sept. 22, Christian Brothers Academy won a private-school showdown with Manlius-Pebble Hill 4-3. Much was made of the singles showdown between Messineo and the Trojans’ Anke Von Hantstein . Von Hantstein won, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, but CBA took the other singles matches as Kamani stopped Anna Purcell 6-0, 6-1, and Cavanaugh got past Alex Verbeck 6-2, 6-3. Needing two points in doubles, CBA got one of them when Thomson-Basha and Norkett beat Laura Flagg and Annaliese Trust 6-1, 6-2. Also in straight sets, Scullin and Fitch got a 6-3, 6-4 win over Emily Barclay and Orla Andrews. MPH grabbed two doubles points when, in three sets, Rebecca Kunz and Cara Adelson rallied past Bulman and Mastroeni 5-7, 6-1, 6-4, while Rebekah Schu and Jonelle Miller got a 7-5, 6-1 win over Jenna Bartolotti and Evie Lopoo.
