Back within the confines of the CNY Counties League American division, the West Genesee cross country teams found little difficulty in Wednesday’s home meet against Oswego and Nottingham. The Wildcats beat the Buccaneers 15-50 on the boys side and 17-46 on the girls side, with Nottingham also participating in both meets on the Camillus Middle School course. They raced a shorter girls course than normal, but Laura Leff still dominated the field, finishing just one second past the 15-minute mark, well ahead of Anna Leo, who finished second in 15:44. Abby Kastick, in third place (15:51), also broke the 16-minute mark. Jessica Emanuelli was fifth (16:31), witth Katie Riley sixth (16:44) and Amy Hannahan (17:05) in seventh place. Allison Rachel was eighth in 17:09. On the boys side, the top Wildcat runners stayed together. Ethan Wojcik got the win in 15 minutes, 38 seconds, with Billy Gabriel, Matt Gonnella, Steve Houghmaster and Sam Reedy each getting a time of 15:39 to reach the top five. Martin Leff, in sixth place (15:47), led the next pack, with John DeLallo in seventh place (15:54). Matt Serrao (16:03) and Mark Reilly (16:08) also ran well. All this came after the Wildcats’ appearance in the massive McQuaid Invitational in Rochester on Oct. 3, where it finished fifth in the featured AAA race on the boys side and 13th in the girls AAA race. Gabriel, among boys individuals, took 13th place in 15:46.38, while Reedy was 32nd in 16:15.32 and Martin Leff 37th in 16:21.05.
