Now it was the Hamilton football team’s turn to find out just how great the state’s top-ranked Class D team looks in person. Westmoreland did nothing to diminish its daunting reputation on Friday night, ignoring the rain and wet conditions to beat the Emerald Knights 50-0. In its five wins, the Bulldogs have outscored its foes by a combined 259-18, so Hamilton has plenty of company in terms of being overwhelmed. By the end of the first quarter, it was already 27-0. Christian Deroche went 71 yards for a touchdown, Justin Becker scored twice on runs of 24 and six yards, and Travis Rogers had a one-yard TD plunge. The Bulldogs’ defense even got on the board when Rogers, in the second quarter, returned an interception 20 yards for a score after Kevin Eisnor’s 20-yard field goal. Becker then returned to get two more TD’s, on runs of 12 and three yards, as Westmoreland wrapped up its scoring in the third quarter and rested its starters the rest of the way. Hamilton, hoping to halt a four-game skid, is at home again next Friday to face Rome Catholic at 7 p.m. in the regular-season finale.
