Having gone through brutal early-season stretches, the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool girls tennis teams both earned wins against CNY Counties League foes. But it was at week’s end that the Northstars earned its biggest title, winning its division at Saturday’s Central New York Tennis Invitational while the Warriors, hosting a separate division, finished second to Skaneateles. CNS won every singles division in its meet. Lauren Osada beat Rebecca Clark (Mexico) 6-0, 6-3, while Jessica Geary beat Lindsay Rose (Oswego) 6-1, 6-1 for the second singles crown and Kavidta Suryadevara topped Mexico’s Molly Freihoffer 6-3, 6-4 in third singles. In doubles, the Northstars won twice. Stephanie Fahrback and Meghan Storie took the first doubles crown, rallying past Marissa Canale and Chandler Caroccio (Oswego) 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, while Alma Puskhar and Kelsey Wilson routed Jackie McGuire and Alexis Giovo (Mexico) 6-1, 6-1 in second doubles. The teams of Lindsay Priest-Vannepha Luangaphay and Katie O’Leary-Carrie Mackenzie each took second place. As for Liverpool, only Maria Chayban and Melissa Inch got a victory, in fourth doubles, holding off the Skaneateles tandem of Marla Chayban and Melissa Inch 6-7, 7-5, 6-2. Every other doubles team had a runner-up finish, including Ashleigh Caruso and Sarah O’Hara, beaten 6-2, 6-2 by the Skaneateles team of Katherine Hill and Megan Holleran. The duos of Chloe Lombardo-Humma Sheikh and Lisa Sikora-Adrianna Kierwa also had runner-up slots, as did singles players Madeline Cass and Lindsey Wallace. Before all this, the Northstars went up against Central Square and had full control in a 7-0 shutout of the Red Hawks. Geary had a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Rachel Cary, while Osada went past Cailey Roberts 6-1, 6-1. Fahrbach swept Madison Perkins 6-2, 6-2. To maintain the doubles sweep, Priest and Luangpahay needed three sets to beat Alexis Bucher and Mackenzie Ruffels 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. The teams of Storie-Becca Cain, Pushkar-Wilson and Mackenzie-O’Leary all won in two sets. A day later, Liverpool took its turn and earned its own 7-0 shutout, this one over the Oswego Buccaneers. In three sets, Wallace rallied past Lindsay Rose 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, this after Kristina Monakhova topped Dominique Canale 6-4, 7-5, and Cass worked her way past Jill Doty 6-1, 6-4. Marissa Robbins and Kerry McSweeney had the closest doubles match, beating Brennan Banta and Meghan Kelly 6-3, 6-1. Otherwise, the teams of Caruso-O’Hara, Lombardo-Sheikh and Chayban-Inch lost just six total games in six sets on the court. The Warriors would go indoors on Wednesday and prevail again, beating the Utica Proctor Raiders 6-1. Sikora needed three sets to beat Rose Zaloom 6-3, 0-6, 7-5, with Kristin Szkolnik sweeping past Lan Cahu 6-1, 6-4. Caruso and O’Hara beat Kait Brown and Alysa Haddad 6-3, 6-2, with Sam Thayer and Megan Falzone getting a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nicole LaBella and Bel Pavlik. The teams of Wallace-Morgan Hull and Kiewra-Jen Hughes both had 6-0, 6-0 wins. CNS was back in action on Thursday, putting together a 7-0 shutout of Utica Proctor.
Osada needed three sets, but still beat Francine White 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, while Fahrbach topped Nicole LaBella 6-1, 6-0 and Geary beat Rose Zaloom 6-3, 6-3. Storie and Cain got involved in the closest doubles match, fighting past Alysa Haddad and Kait Brown 6-3, 6-4. The teams of Pushkar-Wilson, McKenzie-O’Leary and Luangpahay-Schmidt all prevailed in two sets. Just before the CNY Tournament, Liverpool improved to 5-2 on Friday, topping Auburn 6-1. Lombardo and Sheikh preserved a doubles sweep by beating Aiswarya Irri and Hanora Barron 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, with the other doubles points coming in straight sets. Cass beat Palak Patel 6-0, 6-2, with Sikora beating Samantha Cadwallader 6-0, 2-6, 6-3. Both Liverpool and CNS have matches against Corcoran this week, with the Warriors also taking on Rome Free Academy.
