Finishing off a week full of big athletic events around the Baldwinsville school campus, the cross country Bees played host to Saturday’s B’ville Invitational. And naturally, the Bees won — at least on the boys side.
Among 16 entrants in the Large School division, B’ville prevailed with 59 points, holding off Section II Albany-area power Burnt Hills, who was second with 76 points. Ithaca (93 points) and Jamesville-DeWitt (96 points) were third and fourth, respectively. As Burnt Hills’ Scott Maughan took the individual title in 15:02.14, Shaun Thompson and Nate McCabe set the pace for B’ville, as Thompson finished fourth in 15:20.87 and McCabe took fifth place in 15:21.62. Behind them, Adam Pacheck earned ninth place (15:31.99), while Chris Wicks worked his way to 17th place (16:02.87) and Ethan Pacheck, in 24th place (16:24.87), clinched the victory. In the girls Large School division, B’ville took fifth place, earning 132 points. Fairport, from the Section V ranks, edged Ithaca, 57 points to 59, for the top spot, with Clarence and Tully taking the next two spots. Kristin Sprague led the Bees, taking 14th place in 19:19.21 as Ithaca’s Mary Carroll (17:41.05) won the race. Nicole Fecco was 27th (20:01.21) and Ashley Shaheen 28th (20:01.78), with Erika Wilcox in 31st place (20:15.71) and Kristen Biedermann 32nd in 20:19.46. Mallory Warner (20:32.99) and Jaimee Balloni (20:39.78) also finished within the top 40. In the Small School divisions at B’ville, Holland Patent’s boys won a tie-breaker over Jordan-Elbridge, though J-E’s Cody Stanton (15:26.55) took individual honors. Maine-Endwell won the girls Small School division (92 points) as Johnson City’s Lauren Mullins won the individual race in 17:36. Prior to this, the Bees first had to handle a CNY Counties League meet Wednesday at Utica Proctor, beating the Raiders 17-47 on the boys side. Wicks covered the Proctor Park course in 17 minutes, 36 seconds, just ahead of Thompson (17:38) as part of a top-four sweep. Pacheck was third, in 17:41, with Nate McCabe (17:49) in fourth place.
