In their first head-to-head clash this fall, the Oneida and Vernon Verona Sherrill girls soccer teams settled nothing as they ended in a 2-2 tie. Brittani Edwards personally tried to deliver a victory for the Red Devils, twice breaking free and putting shots past Oneida goalie Erin Simmons as VVS took a 2-0 lead to the break. But the Indians’ defense clamped down, and the attack took hold in the late going. Jenn Rougeux and Jessica Goode both scored, with Calley Lynch adding an assist, to force a tie, and 20 minutes of overtime did nothing to resolve it. Two days earlier, VVS fell to Whitesboro 3-0. The Red Devils pitched a first-half shutout, as Leanne Doolen worked her way to 21 saves, but the Warriors broke through in the second half, Megan Chapple earning two of her team’s goals. Oneida’s boys soccer team had all kinds of fun in last Tuesday’s game at Camden, putting together a 6-0 shutout of the Blue Devils. In all, the Indians took 22 shots, and several found the net. Kevin Cavanagh, with two goals, led a balanced attack where Zach Olmsted had one goal and one assist. Jeb Stewart, Chris Wurst and Eric Gann had the other goals, with Connor Lomonaco and Ryan Meyers earning assists.
