A week of rest did little to keep the Cicero-North Syracuse boys soccer team from resuming its unbeaten ways. And for the second time in a span of 15 days, the Northstars, who sit at no. 3 in the state Class AA rankings, beat defending Class AA champion Baldwinsville by a 1-0 margin, extending its mark to 7-0. They had first met Sept. 9 at Gillette Field, a game where Kenny Cooper converted on a header with less than two minutes left in regulation to avoid overtime. Now, in the rematch at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, CNS brought the same stingy defense, but didn’t wait as long to pull out in front. Late in the first half — the 38th minute, to be precise – the Northstars’ Jon Cary flew open and poked a shot past B’ville goalie Alex Bono. Preserving that one-goal margin took the rest of the night, but didn’t prove that taxing. Cary, Alex D’Alfonso, Mike Kuss and Alex Wilson proved so effective on the back line that the Bees managed just one shot on Dan DeBottis all night. The Northstars dominated last Tuesday’s match against Oswego at Gillette Field, generating lots of offense in a 7-0 shutout of the Buccaneers. Eager to get on the field again, CNS raced out to a 5-0 halftime lead before Oswego’s defense could get settled. All told, the Northstars had 19 shots to the Bucs’ two. Kenny Cooper, with two goals and one assists, led the charge as five teammates — Collin Coogan, Vahan Abrahamyan, Logan Roberts, Gino Corasaniti and Josh Williams — earned single goals. Roberts joined Kyle Siegel, Greg McDonald, Dillon McKee and Miles Crouse in recording assists. CNS goes to Nottingham on Tuesday, then is back home Friday to face Central Square.
