Just eight months after the village of Marcellus purchased the old library building at 2-4 Old Slocombe Ave., the property is back on the market. Mayor Mike Plochocki announced at a village board meeting this summer that the village had decided to sell the building. The former home to the Marcellus Free Library is listed for $210,000, about $15,000 more than the village paid for the building in February. The property also no longer includes the parking lot, which was subdivided and will be retained by the village as a municipal parking lot. Plochocki said the village’s asking price reflects fair market for the old library, even without the parking lot. He also defended the building’s physical condition, which has been the subject of some debate. Plochocki said the village had the building inspected and the report is on file with the village clerk, available to any interested buyers. He added that the report found no structural problems with the old library. When the village decided not to use the old library for its own office space, the board invited the town to explore renovating the building for use as a town hall and alternative to the new multi-million dollar building the town had proposed to taxpayers. Several town board members voiced concerns over the structural integrity of the old library and the age of the roof, and the town ultimately decided not to pursue the option. The village has not had any offers on the building.
