Later this fall, Baldwinsville’s cross country teams will find their way to Jamesville Beach State Park to compete in the Section III championship meet. It will help to go there with a winning feeling.
On a sun-drenched Saturday at Jamesville Beach, the boys Bees won in their division during last Saturday’s Chittenango Invitational, taking place exactly seven weeks before the Nov. 7 sectional event. In a Division II field of 14 teams, B’ville produced 37 points, well clear of second-place West Genesee (67 points) as Jordan-Elbridge (95 points) finished third. Shaun Thompson, Nate McCabe and Adam Pacheck ran together at the front. Thompson finished second in 15 minutes, 48.6 seconds, bettered only by J-E’s Cody Stanton, whose 15:40.2 was the best time of the entire meet (four races in all). McCabe landed in third place in 15:56.5, while Pacheck grabbed fourth place in 16:01.09. Together, they gave B’ville an insurmountable cushion as Chris Wicks finished 12th (16:44.5), Ethan Pacheck 16th (16:59.4) and Connor Martin 22nd (17:19.8) in support. Meanwhile, in the girls Division II race at Jamesville Beach, B’ville took fifth place, with 149 points, as Tully (56 points) edged West Genesee (58 points) for the top spot. Nicole Fecco led the Bees’ effort, finishing 23rd in a time of 21:04.9, just ahead of teammate Kristen Biederman (21:11.1) in 24th place. Ashley Shaheen finished 26th in 21:16.6, while Erika Wilcox finished 31st (21:37.9) and Shelby Squire (22:41.2) rounded out the scoring. B’ville saw its scheduled meet with Henninger last Wednesday postponed. Henninger High School was closed that day because of the funeral of assistant principal Joe Mazella. The Henninger meet will be made up later this fall, as B’ville faces Utica Proctor on Wednesday before hosting its own invitational meet on Saturday.
