Even a brief weather break could not slow the Skaneateles girls tennis team’s quest for another unbeaten season. Rained out of its match with Cazenovia on Sept. 11 (it will get made up later this month), the Lakers returned to action Monday and blanked Pulaski 7-0. Between them, singles players Amitra Deol, Elizabeth Lane and Hillary Fenner lost just three singles games, with Fenner getting a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Kalena Sutton. Only two of the four doubles matches were contested, and the teams of Katherine Hill-Megan Holleran and Ryan Merle-Sidney Lawson didn’t drop a single game. And even when the Lakers stepped out of league play, as it did for Wednesday’s match at Auburn, it came through, recording a 6-1 victory over the Maroons. Skaneateles went 4-0 in doubles, starting with Hill and Holleran routing Jaime and Jenna Bruno 6-0, 6-1, and continuing with Merle and Lawson beating Hanora Barron and Aiswarya Irri 6-4, 6-0. Casey VanSlyke and Kathryn Magee had a 6-2, 6-1 win over Heidi VanBuskirk and Molly Brown, as Dani Alderman and Katharina Kulik took out Angela DeBenedetto and Christina Granato 6-3, 6-1. Deol did run into Auburn star Claire Minnoe in first singles, taking a 6-0, 6-0 defeat, but Lane rolled past Palak Patel 6-1, 6-1, and Fenner dominated Samantha Cadwallader 6-1, 6-0. Back in league play on Thursday, the march continued, as the Lakers flattened Jordan-Elbridge 7-0. Between them, Deol, Lane and Fenner lost just one game in six sets of singles play against the Eagles. In doubles, Hill-Holleran, Lawson-Merle and VanSylke-Magee all had 6-0, 6-0 wins, with Alderman and Chelsea White taking a 6-2, 6-1 win over Taylor Sauguins and Kate Humphries.
