Two local municipalities were awarded significant funding toward projects this week through the Restore NY program. The town of Marcellus was awarded $6.7 million in stimulus funding to aid in the creation of the Limeledge Water District, Gov. David A. Paterson announced Monday Aug. 31. The village of Camillus will receive $2.5 million for the Downtown Urban Redevelopment Initiative. Limeledge
In Marcellus, the money will support the planning, design and creation of the Limeledge Water District, including the construction of a new distribution system within the towns of Marcellus and Skaneatles, a new common connection with the Onondaga County Water Authority to serve both the town and the village of Marcellus and upgrades for an existing tank in the village of Marcellus. “We have been in discussions with state agencies for the past few months regarding funding for this project and we are appreciative of the financial relief this money will bring to the residents of the district especially in these difficult economic times,” Marcellus Town Supervisor Daniel Ross. Ross said the grant is the result of the efforts of town officials and the town engineer, Barton and Loguidice. The project will provide a safe and reliable water supply for nearly 300 residents of Marcellus and Skaneateles and upgrade the water system serving more than 600 properties in the village of Marcellus. Ross said residents are all expected to be hooked up and receiving public water by the end of November. About 85 percent of the project has been completed. Camillus Cutlery
The $2.5 million awarded the village of Camillus will go to the demolition and rehabilitation/reconstruction of the Camillus Cutlery buildings and 55 Main Street, a former bar recently purchased by Dick Kirk and currently being renovated.
