Senator John A. DeFrancisco defended himself to a crowd of about 70 people at West Genesee High School, where he said several times that while some might call him a hypocrite, he only ever did what was best for his district. DeFrancisco’s town hall meeting tonight lasted about an hour and a half, during which time about half of the audience’s questions related to the senate coup this summer. Other questions addressed DeFrancisco’s past resistance to reform, his future in the senate and the overall debt the state faces. Though many audience members were visibly frustrated and upset with the senate’s actions – using the terms “fiasco” and “trainwreck” to describe the five-week coup – the meeting was relatively low-key.
