Syracuse Opera Celebrates 35 Years of Grand Operatic Tradition in Upstate New York.
Syracuse Opera commemorates its 35th anniversary with a kick-off celebration fundraiser. Une C (c)l (c)bration a “La Parisienne” will take place Friday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Everson Museum of Art. A festive cocktail party with a fashionably French theme, the night will feature a select live auction, an introduction to the upcoming Turner to C (c)zanne exhibition by the Everson’s Museum Director, Steven Kern, a brief opera preview of the upcoming season by Katherine Calcamuggio– most recently seen this past March as Stephano in Syracuse Opera’s Romeo & Juliet and who will play Hansel in Syracuse Opera’s 2010 production of Hansel & Gretel– and a DVD presentation projected on the walls of the Sculpture Court featuring images from throughout Syracuse Opera’s 35 year history. Also on display will be the reproduction of the blue dress made famous in Renoir’s painting La Parisienne. The dress will be worn by Mimi in Syracuse Opera’s October 23 & 25 productions of Puccini’s La Bohe*me, and the Renoir painting will be featured in the Everson’s exhibition, Turner to C (c)zanne, on display October 9, 2009 — January 3, 2010 at the museum. Individual tickets for the event are $90 and patron tickets are $125. Guests can RSVP by calling the Opera offices at 475-5915 or online at [email protected]. This summertime Opera benefit is generously supported by our Platinum Sponsor, Alan Byer Volvo, our Gold Sponsor, Syracuse University, and our Silver Sponsors: BS&K, AXA, DHP Consulting, Joanne & Jim Beckman-Barb Stone & Frank Wretzel, and Hildegard & Susan Schulze. Proceeds from the evening allow Syracuse Opera to continue to deliver high-quality performances and educational programs for the Central New York community.
