The Manlius Village Board recently learned they were one of four recipients of state grant money for projects that are sustainable and promote upstate revitalization. The $100,000 awarded to the village will go towards swan pond improvements and renovations. The village did not receive everything they requested, said Attorney Jeff Brown, but were lucky to be one of the few municipalities to get any grant money. Trustee Janice Abdo-Rott and Parks & Recreation Director Jim Raulli presented the board with the idea of adding an outside access door to the bathroom at the recreation building on Stickley Drive that could be used during little league games. Abdo-Rott said the Fayetteville-Manlius Little League was willing to make a donation to the village to help with the payment of the door. The addition of that door would make it possible to access the bathrooms only; the rest of the building would remain locked. The board agreed adding the door was an overall good idea, but asked for more details about the size and materials that would be used before making an approval. The board did accept a motion to switch the volunteer fire fighters’ workers compensation insurance at the end of the month. Chief Paul Whorrall said that insurance from Fire Districts of New York Mutual Insurance Co. would save the village approximately $30,000 while providing the same coverage. The motion was approved contingent on the cost of coverage for the career fire staff not being impacted. The board will next meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday June 23 at the Manlius Village Centre. A joint board meeting with the towns of Pompey and Manlius to further discuss the fire department facilities project is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday June 25 at the same location.
