The Liverpool boys lacrosse team has a week to get itself ready for the Section III Class A playoffs following the disappointment of last Friday’s regular-season finale, an 11-8 loss to Auburn. Up against one of the best defensive units in the area, Liverpool had some good moments, especially in the second quarter, when it scored three times. In fact, the Warriors and Maroons played on even terms most of the day. Only once, in the third quarter, did anyone make a big move — and Auburn’s 5-2 outburst in this period proved to be the difference. Matt DiMarco finished with two goals and two assists. Devin Clegg, Mitch Long and Derek Thomas also had two-goal outings, with Tyler Kamide gaining two assists. Mike Mahardy and Derek Kreuzer had one assist apiece. Ryan Duffy picked up nine saves, but had particular trouble with Connor Entenmann, who led Auburn with five goals as teammate Andrew Chadderdon added three goals. Liverpool finished the regular season with a mark of 12-6, still a vast improvement from last year’s 7-11 mark.
