Continuing what had been a season-long duel, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls track and field team answered what Rome Free Academy was doing in last Wednesday’s CNY Counties League American division championship meet at Cicero-North Syracuse. When it all got added up, though, the Hornets finished in front, with 178 points to the Black Knights’ 168 points. Everyone else was far behind. Jess Marini helped F-M win three different events. On her own, she roared to a time of 1:03.39 in the 400-meter hurdles as Audrey Wallace (1:10.32) finished third, then won the 400-meter dash in 57.91 seconds, with Molly Malone (59.91) and Heather Martin (1:00.14) completing a 1-2-3 Hornet sweep. Marini teamed with Martin, Malone and Natalie Alibrandi to win the 4×400 relay in 4:05.43, this after Alibrandi helped Mackenzie Carter, Mary Bucklin and Kristen Buchan earn first place in the 4×800 relay in 10:02.61. Martin branched out to get a key win the long jump, as the freshman soared 16 feet 11 3/4 inches. F-M also swept the top three spots in the, 800, 1,500 and 3,000-meter events, accounting for 72 more points. Malone went to the front in the 800, putting up a time of 2:13.96 as Courtney Chapman took second (2:19.70) and Kathryn Fanning (2:22.04) finished third. Chapman recorded a time of 4:37.27 in the 1,500, with Katie Sischo (4:50.49) and Kathryn Fanning (4:51.06) behind her, while Sischo won the 3,000 in 10:36.85, ahead of Megahan Anklin (11:00.36) and Gennie Ariotti (11:08.48). Molly Levy got third in the 200-meter dash in 27.86 seconds, plus a sixth in the 100-meter dash. Erika Davin was fourth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 10 inches, with Jhoville Pommels fourth (28 feet 11 inches) in the shot put and Tammy Gould sixth in the shot put.
