Gaining some late-season momentum, the Solvay softball team got all of its offense in the last two innings of last Thursday’s game against Jordan-Elbridge, rallying to beat the Eagles 8-3. J-E had a 2-0 lead through five innings, pitcher Jenn Gasparek in full control. All that changed, though, when the Bearcats got to her for five runs in the top of the sixth, then got a trio of seventh-inning runs for good measure. Tiffany Guinta’s pair of hits produced four RBIs. Stacey DeSantis, Shannon Slowik, Liz Martinez and Brittini Casimiro each drove in one run. Gasparek and Sarah Fordyce drove in runs on the Eagles’ behalf. In the first of back-to-back home games, the Bearcats met Hannibal last Tuesday and put together a 12-6 victory over the Warriors. Solvay scored in every inning, starting with a four-run outburst in the bottom of the first, and never trailed from that point as it took full advantage of Hannibal’s eight errors. Guinta had two RBIs, with Alexandra Sciore, Stacey DeSantis, Brittini Casimiro and Arianna Campagnone each drove in one run. Sciore also pitched a complete game to get the win. Things turned around in a hurry during last Wednesday’s 21-7 loss to Homer. The Trojans, already up 2-0, broke the game open with nine runs in the second inning and eventually got 18 hits, taking full advantage of the Bearcats’ eight errors. Despite all this, Guinta’s hot hitting continued, as she smashed a home run and double and finished with five RBIs. Campagnone also drove in a run. Homer saw eight different players earn RBIs in the course of its win. J-E began its week of action by going to Skaneateles last Monday and blasting the Lakers 13-1.
Down 1-0, the Eagles took care of that problem when, in the top of the third inning, it erupted for 12 runs off Skaneateles pitcher Zoe Hilpl. Gasparek, who had a complete-game effort on the mound, doubled and drove in three runs, while Fordyce drove in two runs. Liz Caspari also drove in a run.
