Even with Jasmine Thompson’s quartet of victories, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field team could not prevent the end of its eight-year, 44-meet win streak. Liverpool, the last team to beat the Northstars back in 2001, did so once more last Wednesday at Bragman Stadium, covering a lot of ground in an 82-59 decision. By stark contrast, when the two boys rivals met a day later, CNS overwhelmed Liverpool, winning 109-32 to run its own streak to 22 and secure the league crown. That boys meet featured a complete domination of field events and relays. Jordan Thompson set the tone by winning both the shot put (47 feet 11 inches) and discus (131 feet 9 inches), with Jared Thomson and Anthony Guldetti second and third, respectively, in the shot put. Carl Patzer emerged to take the high jump, clearing 6 feet, as he also beat out Kevin McCarthy in the triple jump, going 41 feet 8 inches. McCarthy did win the long jump with 18 feet 11 inches, edging Patzer by 2 1/2 inches. Dillon McKee and Eric Sykora dueled in the pole vault, each of them clearing 12 feet, but McKee won because he had fewer misses. Brendan Ryan cleared 10 feet. As for the relays, Jared Walther, Wes Kufel, Nick Dunbar and Jake Whritenour went first, dominating the 4×800 in 8:49.65. Ben Brown, Vince St. James, Chuck Haven and Malik Merritt joined in as they won the 4×100 in 44.64 seconds. In the toughest of the relays, the 4×400, Whritenour, Zach Brown, Alex Neumeister and Shaun Hyde won a close battle with Liverpool, 3:34.31 to 3:35 flat. St. James, on his own, took the 100-meter dash in 12.1 seconds, while Neumeister held off Hyde to win the 400 hurdles in 1:00.47. Chris Buchanan, second in the mile (4:36.9) to Liverpool’s Colin Savage (4:34.34), did beat the Warriors’ Anthony Brais in the 3,200-meter run with a clocking of 10:07.82. Brandon Marlow took the 200-meter dash (25.2 seconds) as Mike Fiume won the 400-meter dash in 51.86 seconds. As for that CNS girls meet, Thompson did everything she could, beginning with a top time of 15.8 seconds in the 100-meter high hurdles. She went 17 feet 1 1/2 inches in the long jump, cleared 5 feet 5 inches in the high jump (best in Section III this season) and won the triple jump, going 36 feet 1 1/2 inches. Taylor Wendler ran to victory in the 1,500-meter event in 4:52.8 as Nicole Watterud needed 10:44.9 to prevail at 3,000 meters. Wendler teamed with Marissa Colburn, Lindsay Raulli and Marissa Colburn to take the 4×800 relay in 10:28.9. Katie Wilmer prevailed in the discus, tossing it 90 feet 10 inches. Liverpool saw Trina Bills win the 400-meter dash (1:00.6), 400 hurdles (1:08.2) and 800-meter run (2:22.4) as Wanetta Rodney took the 100 (13.0 seconds) and 200 (27.6 seconds) sprints, then helped the Warriors win the 4×100 relay in 50.5 seconds.
