Even though it held a modest 8-6 mark, the Baldwinsville softball team had already proven that it could hang right with the top Class AA contenders, even beating Cicero-North Syracuse on May 2 at Gillette Field. Further confirmation of this point came in last Thursday’s game against Liverpool, the state’s no. 8-ranked Class AA team. With a dramatic late rally, the Bees beat the Warriors 3-2. Liverpool used single runs in the third and fourth innings, both of them unearned, to take a 2-0 lead, usually enough for a pitching ace like Erin Squairs. However, the Bees got to Squairs for a run in the bottom of the fourth, and Cassie Williams kept Liverpool off the board the next three innings, giving up just four hits overall. Down to its last outs in the bottom of the seventh, B’ville rose up once more, getting runners on second and third with nobody out. Katie Dobkowski singled home the tying run, and though Liverpool threw one possible winning run out, the Bees won when Williams singled home Dobkowski. Though it gave up the first runs in last Tuesday’s game against Henninger, the Bees did not stay behind for too long as it rallied and rolled past the Black Knights 9-2. Ali Niemiec pitched and, aside from Nicole Alexander’s two-run home run in the top of the first inning, kept Henninger off the board, allowing just six total hits. B’ville used a trio of runs in the bottom of the third to surge ahead, as it scored in four of the first five innings. Katrina Conklin and Emily Bressenden each drove in two runs, while Kristen Baladino, Carley Nicoletti and Lindsay Varga put up one RBI apiece.
