Closing out its CNY Counties League National division regular-season slate, the West Genesee track and field teams completed a sweep of Henninger last Tuesday afternoon, beating the Black Knights 117-24 on the boys side and 91-48 on the girls side. As some of the Wildcats’ top boys athletes rested, others stepped up, including Tom Hopkins. He ran to victory in the 3,200-meter run (10:31) and helped Ron Ta, Andrew Incaudo and John Delallo claim the 4×800 relay in 9:18.2. Incaudo, on his own, took the 800-meter run (2:08.5) as Tom Brogan won the mile in 5:02.8. Jon Richardson tore through the 400-meter hurdles in 58.9 seconds as Jake Lafever won the 400-meter dash in 51.8 seconds. Richardson, Sam Reedy, Jake Lafever and Zach Lafever earned a 4×400 win in 3:45.9. Jeremy Jones highlighted a sweep of the field events, going 22 feet 5 inches in the long jump and also winning the triple jump with 42 feet 1 inch. In the pole vault, Jeremy Cantello cleared 10 feet as Alex Young (5 feet 6 inches) won the high jump. Ben Zachariah threw the shot put 41 feet 1 inch as Brandon Valerino won the discus with a toss of 114 feet 2 inches. The closer girls meet featured Katie Bott winning both the 200-meter dash (27.0 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles (1:08.3). Brianna McGraw won the 100-meter dash (13.0 seconds) as she, along with Paige Copeland, Jamy Blisss and Ali Rachubka, took the 4×100 relay in 53.5 seconds. WG also swept the distance races as Alex Incaudo prevailed in the 800 (2:28.9), Colleen Smith took the 1,500 (5:25.6) and Carly Graham needed 10:36.9 to win at 3,000 meters. In the 4×800, Smith, Graham, Kristin Waters and Kayla Murphy posted a time of 11:16.6. Kelly Powell powered her way to a 400-meter victory in 1:06.3 as Jessica Andrianos threw the discus 122 feet 1 inch, one of the best in Section III this season. Rachel Hefti (6 feet) took first in the pole vault. Both West Genesee teams will go to Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium Wednesday for the CNYCL National division championship meet.
