Surviving another challenge to its long win streak, the Fayetteville-Manlius boys tennis team fought past Baldwinsville 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon. It helped that the Hornets went 3-1 in doubles, each of them one-sided affairs.
Vivek and Vikram Nayar beat Ben Weiss and Shawn Sullivan 6-1, 6-0, while Mark Hamidi and Alex Martin routed Kevin Thompson and Josh Katz 6-1, 6-1. Scott Trobert and Kunal Sangani earned a 6-1, 6-0 sweep over Shaun Devlin and Kevin Pregent. Nick Westegaard handled Tom Hamm 6-1, 6-3, but Matt Izant had one of his toughest matches of the season, beating Matt Funicello in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Also in three sets, Eric Rosenthal lost to Dan Kot 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Within 48 hours, Christian Brothers Academy completed a crucial sweep of Cazenovia to stay atop the OHSL Liberty division. The Brothers’ 3-2 victory last Monday was the same score as their first match on May 9, with a few alterations. Matt Nardella beat Jon Cipiti 6-0, 6-2, but Ash Kamani and Dan Mantouth both lost in singles, meaning CBA had to win both of its doubles matches. That didn’t prove difficult, as Colin Nardella teamed with Josh Mulligan to beat Tyler Underriner and Elliot Dydo 6-1, 6-1. Alex Martino and Alex Ojugbeli also won in two sets. Just as important for CBA was the way it turned around on Tuesday and put together a 3-2 win over Skaneateles that all but locked up the league title. Colin Nardella beat Joey Robinson 6-4, 6-1, just as Mulligan beat Jon Mushock 6-1, 6-4 and Matt Nardella blanked Tyler Wilcox 6-0, 6-0. Neither doubles side won, but the singles players did enough. Jamesville-DeWitt mostly relied on its doubles teams to get past East Syracuse-Minoa 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon. Devan Ramachandran and Dennis Zhou beat John Winters-DeMarco and Josh Nubla 6-3, 6-1, as the teams of Reed Tso-Abraham Davis and Jeff Cox-Cam Sylvia also won in two sets. In singles, Erik Davis claimed a singles forfeit, while Gorav Simlote beat Derek Pontillo 6-0, 6-1. Jake Wiesenthal lost a 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 decision to Parker Stone as Cooper White lost to Daryll Johnson 6-1, 6-1.
