As part of its own tournament, the Canastota softball team strung together a superb effort against Pulaski, the state’s top-ranked Class C team, shutting out the Blue Devils by a score of 5-0. In the battle of two senior pitching aces, Liz McGinley prevailed over Ashley Snyder, holding Pulaski to just two hits. Snyder, who owns more than 1,000 career strikeouts, only allowed a third-inning run early on. However, with the score still 1-0, Canastota broke it open with four runs in the sixth inning as McGinley doubled and drove in two runs and Alicia Hibbard added an RBI. Returning to league action last Monday, the Raiders enjoyed its best run production of the season in a 19-0 romp over Rome Catholic. For a while, the Raiders kept quiet — but that changed in the fourth inning. Ahead 1-0, Canastota erupted for 12 runs in that frame, each player getting a chance to cross the plate before it was done. Hibbard proved unstoppable with a triple, double and six RBIs as part of a four-hit outing. Jessica Patterelli, Andrea Underwood (two hits), Alexis Havens, Liz McGinley and Lindsay McGinley each drove in two runs. Patterelli and Liz McGinley combined on a two-hit shutout. Canastota continued to hit plenty in Tuesday’s 13-1 win over Mount Markham, roaring to a 12-1 lead by the fourth inning in support of Patterelli’s two-hit pitching effort. Hibbard, Patterelli and Liz McGinley each drove in two runs, with McGinley adding a triple. Jessica DeNova also tripled as Underwood and Brianna Quaglia got credited with one RBI apiece.
