Piece by piece, and victory by victory, the West Genesee girls lacrosse team is slowly setting the stage for May 19 and the rematch with Baldwinsville, now at the top of the national rankings, according to www.laxpower.com. The Wildcats, right behind the Bees at no. 4 in those same rankings (and no. 2 in the state), hosted Auburn last Tuesday night. By playing a near-flawless first half, WG rolled past the Maroons 14-4. Dominating the draws and possessing the ball most of the time, the Wildcats pateintly wore the Maroons’ defense down and, by halftime, owned a 9-0 edge. What was more, WG proved quite balanced. Lauren Michaels, Bre Hudgins and Maria DiFato each finished with three-goal hat tricks. Kara Datellas earned two goals and one assist, and Morgan Corso had a goal and two assists. Mel Murphy and Bridget Alberts also scored, with Sara Fisher and Sarah Brown gathering up assists, too. WG went to Central Square on Thursday night and continued to roll, pounding the Red Hawks by a score of 15-4. Not wasting any time, the Wildcats had a 12-1 edge by halftime, allowing itself to relax a bit later. Tupper, with four goals and two assists, led this charge. Alberts, Marissa Masello and Mara Guy each scored twice, with DiFato earning a goal and three assists. Datellas also had three assists. Corso earned one goal and two assists as Hudgins and Chelsea Kuss also scored, and Murphy gained two assists.
