When the second quarter started, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys lacrosse team had to feel confident that it could run past its neighbor and rival, Liverpool, in last Thursday’s game. Instead, the Northstars got run over, as the Warriors used a second-quarter offensive explosion to get away, ultimately handing CNS a 19-9 defeat. The Northstars had that 4-3 edge disappear when Liverpool put up nine goals prior to the half, turning a tight battle into a 13-6 deficit that CNS could not overcome. Sean McCaffery, Rob McCarthy and John Stimson each had two goals, with McCaffery adding two assists. Mike DeBottis, Zach MacNabb and Nic Heldt also scored, with Robbie Ashlaw feeding all of them as he got four assists. Matt DiMarco had a part in more than half of Liverpool’s scoring plays, with four goals and six assists. In the tune-up for the Liverpool rematch, the Northstars hosted Central Square last Tuesday night and breezed to a 14-2 win over the Red Hawks. CNS didn’t allow a goal until the fourth quarter, by which point all the starters were out as it had steadily worked its way to a 14-0 advantage. Robbie Ashlaw, with six assists (plus a goal), serve as the set-up man, as Zach MacNabb, John Stimson and Mike DeBottis each had three-goal hat tricks. MacNabb added two assists. Sean McCaffery, Nic Heldt, Pat Tierney and Nick Russo also scored.
