It falls to the Liverpool boys lacrosse team to be run over early last week, then achieve dominance against its neighbors, then be unwelcome guests at a milestone moment for the area’s most accomplished high school coach. The good part came in the middle, as the Warriors ripped up rival Cicero-North Syracuse 19-9 Thursday on its home grass. Nothing in the first quarter indicated this kind of rout, as Liverpool trailed 4-3. But in a second-period onslaught, the Warriors found the net nine times, jumping out in front 13-6 before it slowed things down in the second half. Matt DiMarco piled up 10 points through four goals and six assists. Those passes went to Mitch Long, Devin Clegg and Derek Thomas, each of whom had three goals as Long also earned three assists. Tyler Kamide and Joe Corapi each scored twice, with Tanner Kreuzer and Matt Savlov adding single tallies as Chris Spencer joined Kreuzer in the assist column. Ryan Duffy finished with 14 saves. The first part fell last Tuesday afternoon, against Fayetteville-Manlius, where a terrific start turned into a rout for the other side as it lost to the Hornets 17-4. Meeting for the second time in seven days (F-M won the first meeting 15-9 on April 29), Liverpool fed off the energy of its fast finish at Baldwinsville. Clegg scored 2:45 into the game. Then, in a span of 15 seconds, Kamide and DiMarco scored, and Liverpool had a 3-0 lead, forcing F-M to use a time-out to regroup. And from that point forward, Liverpool didn’t score again until Kamide converted — in the fourth quarter, by which point F-M had pulled far away. The Hornets went in front by the second quarter, had a 5-3 edge by halftime, and used three goals in a span of 31 seconds late in the third period to get clear. Mike O’Neil, with five goals and one assist, and Matt Taylor, with three goals and three assists, led the charge. On Saturday, Liverpool finds itself at West Genesee, facing the unenviable task of trying to keep the Wildcats from giving head coach Mike Messere his 700th career win.
