Each of the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field win streaks against the CNY Counties League National division remains alive. For the boys Northstars, a serious challenge got averted Wednesday at Bragman Stadium as it beat Baldwinsville by a score of 77-64 and ran its win streak to 21 straight meets. It came from depth in some contests and wins in other head-to-head battles against the Bees’ best athletes. For example, in the 3,200-meter run, Chris Buchanan got away from Shaun Thompson, winning in a time of 9:49.2, nearly seven seconds clear of Thompson. Buchanan also won the mile in 4:27.9 as B’ville’s Andres Roman (4:36.1) took a distant second. Over in the 800-meter run, Jared Walther won in 2:02.7, a second ahead of the Bees’ Tim Chambers, while Alex Neumeister needed 59.2 seconds to beat B’ville’s Andrew Hoover (1:00.7) in the 400 hurdeles. Mike Fiume led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 400-meter dash, winning in 51.2 seconds as Zach Brown was second and Brandon Marlow third. Fiume was also second in the 200-meter dash as Vince St. James got second to Sean Bernstein in the 100-meter dash. St James got together with Chuck Haven, Ben Brown and Malik Merritt to win the 4×100 relay in 44.3 seconds. Neumeister, Brandon Marlow, Jake Whritenour and Zach Brown won the 4×400 (3:34.5) as CNS took a close second (8:16.3) to B’ville (8:14.4) in the 4×800 relay. B’ville had many wins in field events, but Dillon McKee (11 feet 6 inches) and Brendan Ryan (10 feet) went 1-2 in the pole vault. Eric Munoz (41 feet 3 inches) edged Karl Patzer (41 feet 2 1/2 inches) in the triple jump. Jordan Thompson (47 feet 10 inches) won the shot put as Jared Thomson and Anthony Guldetti completed a 1-2-3 sweep. Meanwhile, in the girls meet at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, CNS made it 44 straight league meet wins as it handled B’ville 85-56. Jasmine Thompson won three times on her own, starting with a time of 16.1 seconds in the 100-meter high hurdles and continuing with the long jump (15 feet 5 inches) and high jump, where she cleared 4 feet 10 inches to tie with Gina Campagna. Nicole Campagna took the 800-meter run in 2:24.6 as Taylor Wendler broke five minutes in the 1,500-meter run (4:59.1) and Nicole Watterud (10:48.7) won at 3,000 meters. Wendler, Lindsay Raulli, Katie Laris and Marissa Colburn took the 4×800 relay in 9:56.5. In the pole vault, Gina Campagna won, clearing 7 feet 6 inches, with Chelsea Davidson taking the 400 hurdles (1:11.5) as Valerie Langevin threw the discus 101 feet 9 inches.
