Following some rest, the Cicero-North Syracuse softball team resumed a busy slate late last week, still trying to find some consistent pitching as the wins piled up. The Northstars went to Fayetteville-Manlius last Thursday and, again, needed two pitchers to get past the Hornets 5-3. CNS tagged F-M’s ace, Amy Bright, for three runs in the first inning and were up 4-0 in the second inning. The Hornets fought back, closing within 4-2 in the fourth inning, but CNS answered with a run in the top of the fifth. Still, when F-M scored in the bottom of the sixth, Sarah Salamone relieved Erica Gigliotti and worked the rest of the way for the save. Jennifer Huff tripled for one of eight CNS hits, finishing with an RBI. Morgan Nandin doubled and drove in two runs. A day later, the Northstars played Corcoran and, again, relied on the big inning to earn a 9-3 victory over the Cougars. Breaking up a 0-0 tie, the Northstars got three runs in the third inning, then put it away with six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Huff and Nandin both had a double and two RBIs, while Salamone also drove in two runs. Jenna Perry added an RBI, too. Salamone started this time on the mound, earning the win as Sydney O’Hara worked in relief, giving up all of Corcoran’s runs in the sixth inning. After hosting Central Square on Tuesday, CNS will get its first shot Friday at Liverpool, who has started 13-1 and is in the state Class AA top 10.
